For Immediate Release - Oct.15, 2007
Indianapolis, Ind. – October 15, 2007 – ANGEL® Learning, recognized innovator of enterprise e-learning software and services, continues to lead the education technology industry in the implementation of interoperability standards. As one of the first to provide full production support of the IMS Common Cartridge standard, ANGEL is enabling a new era of content.
Developed to meet educators’ diverse needs, Common Cartridge allows institutions and faculty to mix and match content from different suppliers and augment commercially available content with privately developed learning materials. The ANGEL Learning Management Suite’s (LMS) support for the standard follows ANGEL Learning’s 2006 contribution of “substantial intellectual property” to the creation of the standard. The contribution of ANGEL Learning source code “for the greater good of the educational community” enabled the standard to more quickly move from concept to reality.
“ANGEL has been a key leader and investor in the development of the Common Cartridge standard from the beginning and is at the forefront of commitment to and inclusion of Common Cartridge in its products,” comments Rob Abel, chief executive officer of the IMS Global Learning Consortium. “ANGEL and IMS GLC share the vision of revolutionizing content portability, interoperability and innovation, which is now becoming a reality through ANGEL’s commitment to aggressive implementation of open standards.”
“The IMS recently formed the Common Cartridge Alliance in order to bring this important content sharing specification to the educational forefront,” said Ray Henderson, chief products officer, ANGEL Learning. “Our intellectual property contribution and early support of this standard illustrates our strong product and philosophical commitment to interoperability. We urge other LMS vendors to get behind this important movement for the overall benefit of the educational community.”
In addition to being one of the first to support for the Common Cartridge standard, the ANGEL LMS is at the forefront in providing native support for a key industry assessment standard, Question Test Interoperability (QTI) 2.1, and the most widely accepted accessibility standards in the international community the IMS Access for All (ACCLIP) standards.
The ANGEL LMS assessment engine is built on the QTI 2.1 specification. Use of QTI 2.1 ensures support for advanced formative and summative assessment in ANGEL while providing full interoperability with a wide choice of complementary systems in the enterprise, allowing institutions that use ANGEL to take advantage of the full range of assessment products and services and exchange data among them.
Native ACCLIP support adapts the ANGEL LMS interface to a learner’s specific accessibility needs and preferences before or after they login to the ANGEL environment. Students or faculty who have defined accessibility needs in other systems can import them directly into their ANGEL profiles.
IMS GLC is a global, nonprofit, member organization that provides leadership in shaping and growing the learning industry through community development of standards, promotion of innovation and research into best practices. An IMS GLC contributing member, ANGEL Learning’s commitment to the educational community drives the development of the ANGEL LMS as an open system and the company’s leadership in the standards community.
