Internet Academy, Washington State’s First Online Public School, Adopts ANGEL LMS to Support K-12 Online Learning
For Immediate Release - Oct. 2, 2008
Indianapolis, Ind. – October 2, 2008 – ANGEL® Learning, a leading provider of enterprise eLearning software and services, today announced that Internet Academy (IA), provider of innovative and challenging K-12 academic experiences online, has adopted the ANGEL Learning Management Suite (LMS) to support its online learning programs. IA offers core and elective courses that provide students and families flexibility to meet their individual needs. IA enrolls full- and part-time students seeking credit retrieval and extra credits, homeschooled students, athletes and actors, special needs students; any student in grades K-12 who can benefit from the 24/7 availability of IA’s online learning environment. The ANGEL LMS is replacing the internally developed system IA originally used.
“We were exploring other systems when we found ANGEL,” said Ron Mayberry, principal, Internet Academy. “We chose ANGEL because ANGEL provided the most features at the best price.” Assessment capabilities and exclusive agent technology included in the ANGEL LMS strongly influenced IA’s decision to adopt ANGEL. “The tools ANGEL provides to align State standards to class curriculum, track student progress, automate communications based on progress, and report results will help us meet State requirements,” Mayberry stated.
Powerful communication and collaboration features also contributed to IA’s decision to adopt ANGEL. “ANGEL allows our teachers and students to have the ongoing conversations that develop relationships,” Mayberry continued. Mayberry speaks from experience. He taught a course in ANGEL over the summer “to get the experience teachers would have.” All IA teachers are certified by the State of Washington, many have been teaching at IA since its inception in 1996, and all have extensive classroom experience. Teacher development and mentoring are primary at IA. “We meet as a staff for staff development multiple times each week,” Mayberry reported.
“As Washington State’s first online public school Internet Academy has demonstrated its commitment to both making quality education accessible and to harnessing technology to serve the needs of K-12 education,” said Christopher Clapp, president and CEO, ANGEL Learning. “ANGEL Learning is pleased to welcome IA to the quickly growing K-12 ANGEL community, and we look forward to their input as we add new features and functionality to the ANGEL LMS to address K-12 specific needs.”
Accredited by the Northwest Association of Accredited Schools, Internet Academy offers experience, tested curriculum, quality teachers familiar with Washington’s standards, and a wide variety of academic and elective courses. IA’s asynchronous format and open enrollment allow students to begin classes at any time, providing every student and family the flexibility to meet their individual needs and goals in a one-on-one learning environment.
