Johnson County Community College Anticipates ANGEL Adoption Will Spark Renewed Interest in Online Teaching and Learning

For Immediate Release - Sept. 8, 2008

Indianapolis, Ind. – September 8, 2008 – ANGEL® Learning, a leading provider of enterprise eLearning software and services, today announced that Johnson County Community College (JCCC) in Overland Park, Kansas has adopted the ANGEL Learning Management Suite (LMS) to deliver online and blended courses. The largest of Kansas’ 19 community colleges, JCCC chose to transition to the ANGEL LMS from the course management system the college originally licensed following a thorough review of products available. Top reasons the college chose ANGEL include stability, ease of use, and rich features for online learning

“Faculty and staff at Johnson County Community College have spent the past two years researching trends in learning management systems and consulting with friends and colleagues at other institutions in a quest to identify an easy to use, uncomplicated and, most importantly, stable, full-featured system that would support the needs of our online students,” said Jonathan Bacon, academic director, Educational Technology Center, Johnson County Community College. “As we began exploring alternative learning management systems, one name was mentioned repeatedly by our faculty (based on personal experience) and the word of mouth recommendations of colleagues at other institutions. That name was ANGEL Learning. After campus demonstrations by several vendors, hands-on testing in numerous sandbox courses, and energetic discussion by our faculty and technical support staff, our faculty overwhelmingly chose to transition to ANGEL. We’re very excited about the possibilities and the broad functionality we’re discovering in ANGEL. We really think this system is the welcome messenger of a revival of interest in online teaching and learning at JCCC.”

“Johnson County Community College’s thorough evaluation of available learning management systems illustrates their commitment to providing the resources faculty and students need to succeed,” said Christopher Clapp, president and CEO, ANGEL Learning. “We’re very pleased JCCC’s search for a better system to support online students led them to ANGEL, and we are happy to welcome Johnson County Community College to the ANGEL community.”

Johnson County Community College enrolls more than 34,000 students each semester. The college offers a full range of undergraduate credit courses that form the first two years of most college curricula. In addition, JCCC offers more than 50 one- and two-year career and certificate programs that prepare students to enter the job market in high-employment fields. JCCC’s continuing education program is the largest, most comprehensive in the Kansas City area. JCCC returns about $2.70 to the community for every tax dollar it collects. The college's total tangible economic impact on the community is more than $182 million annually.
