Course Description
In this cooperative effort, the University of Kansas Medical Center School of Allied Health and Teaching and Learning Technologies (TLT) Department transformed a "basic online course" into an exceptional example of the possibilities ANGEL provides to make online teaching and learning exemplary.
In spring 2007, a TLT makeover team began working with Dr. Lisa Bittel to pilot the Extreme Course Makeover concept on her Pharmacology for Physical Therapists online course. Together the team decided to include a number of additions to the course:
- Interactive learning objects from MERLOT.
- A course template that included both consistent visual formatting and best practices.
- Required activity where students developed exam questions.
- Formative assessment using the ANGEL Jeopardy game.
- Optional supplemental and enrichment online resources.
- Free online videos covering a range of diseases and treatments.
Following this Extreme Course Makeover, the average course final exam grade improved from a C+ to an A- and so many faculty volunteered to participate in the program, TLT now has a one year backlog of course makeover projects.
