2007 ANGEL IMPACT Awards - Exemplary Individual Contributions to the ANGEL Community
Peter Friesen
Peter Friesen, Senior Staff Technologist, Instructional Technology
SUNY Plattsburgh
Plattsburgh, NY
Peter Friesen developed a software program – fondly called the “ConversionThingy” in the State University of New York system – that extracts content formatted for the SUNY Learning Network’s Notes system for migration to ANGEL. Friesen’s work is open for all the SUNY community to use and has saved the community immeasurable time as many SUNY campuses migrate to ANGEL.
For the SUNY Learning Network alone, the ConversionThingy has extracted 293,354 objects in approximately 14 ½ hours, a task that estimates calculate would have taken 611 workdays if completed manually.
At Empire State College, the ConversionThingy has converted more than 2,600 course shells and 85,000 individual learning objects at last count.
